From November 3 to 8, 2026, the 12th edition of Dubai Design Week will bring together exhibitions, large-scale installations, workshops, talks and encounters with leading figures from the international creative industries. Held with the support of Dubai Culture, the festival will once again explore the evolving role of design in contemporary life.
Dubai Culture.
For more than a decade, Dubai Design Week has provided a platform for dialogue and the exchange of ideas between designers, architects and creative professionals from around the world. This year, the programme will focus on design’s ability to bring people together and create new forms of interaction at a time when the ways we communicate, work and experience our surroundings are rapidly changing.
This idea runs throughout the 2026 programme, examining the influence of design on everyday life — from the spaces where people meet and communicate to the objects, materials and technologies that surround them. Architecture, product design, craftsmanship, new technologies and material experimentation will come together across exhibitions, installations, discussions, workshops and public events.
Khadija Al Bastaki, Senior Vice President of Dubai Design District (d3), part of TECOM Group, highlighted creativity as a powerful force for development and progress. She noted that the long-standing partnership with Dubai Design Week continues to support creative initiatives, nurture talent and provide an environment in which new ideas can develop, contributing to the objectives of Dubai’s Design Sector Strategy 2033.
Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasised the festival’s role in supporting designers, encouraging experimentation and creating opportunities for exchange between UAE-based creatives and the international community. Dubai was the first city in the Middle East to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of design, and the festival continues to contribute to the development of its cultural and creative industries.
Dubai Design Week Director Natasha Carella sees design today as a discipline whose influence extends far beyond objects and spaces. It shapes the way people live, the way cities function and the way society responds to change. The festival therefore brings together different disciplines and perspectives, creating a space in which established ideas can be questioned and new approaches explored.

Urban Commissions: Atmospheres
Urban Commissions: «
Dubai Design Week’s annual Urban Commissions competition invites architects to reconsider the urban environment and the role design plays in public life. The 2026 theme, Atmospheres, focuses not simply on architecture as form, but on the way a space makes us feel before we consciously begin to analyse it.
Light, temperature, sound, materials and spatial organisation all affect whether a place feels comfortable, how we move through it and where we choose to stop, meet or spend time. This year’s winning project, Three Gardens and a Room, comes from Dubai-based NAO Architects, founded by Reem Nassour in 2023.
Three Gardens and a Room («Три сада и комната») дубайского архитектурного бюро NAO Architects, основанного Рим Нассур в 2023 году.
Three Gardens and a Room reimagines the familiar idea of a garden through three environments, each defined by its own vegetation, colour, light, shadow, materials and temperature. Arranged around a shared open-air “room”, the gardens demonstrate how subtle changes in our surroundings can alter our perception of space and the ways in which people interact within it.
Three Gardens and a Room
Abwab: In Other Words
In 2026, Abwab — one of Dubai Design Week’s key platforms for designers and creatives from Western, South and East Asia and Africa — will take on a new format. For the first time, participants will come together in a collective exhibition rather than presenting separate pavilions.
Titled In Other Words, the exhibition approaches language as something far broader than speech or writing. Signs, symbols, digital interfaces, gestures and oral traditions become tools for exploring how information is communicated, memories are preserved, meanings are translated and misunderstandings arise. These ideas will be expressed through visual design, spatial interventions and sound.

India’s ALTER will reinterpret the board game Ludo through the interactive Playing Field, while Bahrain’s Palm and Palazzo will explore the balance between privacy and social interaction in a traditional Bahraini home through its installation BAYN.
