Tilu Fest: Kazakhstan to Host a Major Educational Festival Bringing Together Languages, Global Education and a New Generation of Leaders

On September 13, Abai Square in Almaty will host the first-ever Tilu Fest — a free youth festival bringing together international experts, inspiring stories of young Kazakhstanis, global educational opportunities and a major open-air stage. The festival’s special guest will be Ranjitsinh Disale, winner of the Global Teacher Prize 2020, one of the world’s most prestigious international awards for educators.

13 сентября на площади Абая в Алматы впервые пройдет Tilu Fest — бесплатный молодежный фестиваль, который объединит международных экспертов, истории молодых казахстанцев, образовательные возможности и большую городскую сцену. Специальным гостем станет Ranjitsinh Disale — лауреат Global Teacher Prize 2020, одной из крупнейших международных премий для учителей.

The festival will create a platform for an open conversation about how education and language skills can expand opportunities for young people — regardless of where they live or where their journey begins. Participants will be able to learn more about admission to the world’s leading universities, international educational programmes and career opportunities, while also hearing first-hand stories from young Kazakhstanis who have already taken this path.

Фестиваль станет площадкой для открытого разговора о том, как образование и знание языков могут расширять возможности молодых людей — независимо от того, где они живут и с чего начинают свой путь. Участники смогут узнать о поступлении в ведущие университеты мира, международных образовательных программах и карьерных возможностях, а также услышать истории молодых казахстанцев, которые уже прошли этот путь.

Participation in Tilu Fest is free of charge. The festival’s social mission is also reflected in the Tilu Ауыл Грант programme, which gives young people from rural regions of Kazakhstan the opportunity to study English for free. Several participants of the programme will share their personal stories on the festival’s main stage.

In this way, Tilu Fest will bring together in one place what often exists separately: international education, real stories of young people, professional dialogue and a large-scale urban event.

Global Education — in the Kazakh Language

All educational and panel sessions at the festival will be held in Kazakh. Participants will discuss language learning, admission to the world’s leading universities, career opportunities and the role of education in shaping the lives of a new generation.

Все образовательные и панельные сессии фестиваля пройдут на казахском языке. Участники обсудят изучение языков, поступление в ведущие университеты мира, карьерные возможности и роль образования в жизни нового поколения.

Kazakhstanis with connections to Stanford, Oxford, Harvard and UPenn will share their experience and insights. The festival’s special guest, Ranjitsinh Disale, winner of the Global Teacher Prize 2020, will speak about how education can become a powerful instrument for global change.

A dedicated part of the programme will focus on the stories of Tilu students — young Kazakhstanis who have achieved outstanding results in English, won academic competitions and gained access to international educational opportunities.

Opportunities Should Not Depend on Geography

One of the festival’s central themes will be equal access to education for young people from different regions of Kazakhstan.

Один из ключевых вопросов фестиваля — доступность образования для молодых людей из разных регионов Казахстана.

Through the Tilu Ауыл Грант programme, young people from rural communities are given the opportunity to study English free of charge. One of the programme’s participants is Dina Oralbekkyzy. After receiving a grant to study, she now teaches English in her own village, passing on the knowledge and opportunities she once received to others.

В рамках Tilu Ауыл Грант молодые люди из сельских населенных пунктов получают возможность бесплатно изучать английский язык. Одна из участниц программы — Дина Оралбеккызы. Получив грант на обучение, сегодня она сама преподает английский язык в своем селе и передает полученные знания другим.

Stories like Dina’s demonstrate how access to education can transform not only the life of one individual, but also have a meaningful impact on an entire community.

The festival will also recognise teachers and students for their academic achievements. The organisers aim to draw attention to the idea that the educational success of young Kazakhstanis deserves the same level of public recognition as achievements in sport, culture or music.

From Educational Dialogue to the Main Stage

От образовательного диалога — к большой сцене

In the evening, Tilu Fest will transform into a major live concert. From 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM, Abai Square will welcome performances by YENLIK, Alisher Konysbayev, Aidana Medenova, Zattybek Kopbossynuly, ADIL, ALPHA, Kazybek Kuraiysh, Kairat Tuntekov, Yerke Yesmakhan and RAIM.

According to the organisers’ expectations, the concert will attract around 10,000 spectators, turning the educational initiative into a large-scale event for the city and its young audience.

The festival was initiated by Äsel Amangeldi, founder of Tilu and a Harvard University graduate with a master’s degree in Education Leadership. Founded in 2022, Tilu has educated more than 15,000 students over the past four years.

Tilu Fest is envisioned as a space for growth, new opportunities and meaningful professional dialogue — a place where young Kazakhstanis can discover the possibilities of global education, see real examples of their peers’ achievements and find inspiration and direction for their own journey. By bringing together knowledge, international experience and contemporary youth culture, the festival aims to make education part of a major city-wide conversation.
