Kazakhstani makeup artist ranks among the world’s top three

Hundreds of competitors, strict regulations and absolute concentration: Paris hosted the OMC Hairworld World Cup 2026, one of the world’s leading championships for beauty industry professionals. Kazakh makeup artist Natalia Demidova won the silver medal, confirming the strength and international standing of Kazakhstan’s beauty school.

The Hairworld World Cup is considered one of the most important events of the year in the global beauty industry. The 80th anniversary edition brought together more than a thousand participants from five continents. Over three days at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, professionals competed for top honors in three disciplines: hairdressing, makeup and nail art.

“For me, this was much more than a competition. It marked a new chapter, a great dream and an enormous step forward,” Natalia says. “It was the first time I had presented myself and my work at a world championship. Excitement, responsibility and inspiration all came together in a single moment.”

Natalia Demidova began her career in makeup artistry in 2017. Over the following nine years, she progressed from a beginner to an educator and jury member at international competitions, earning numerous awards at prestigious championships and exhibitions along the way. She is also one of the few professionals in Kazakhstan to have received the status of an accredited OMC judge. The international organization for hair and beauty professionals brings together representatives from more than 50 countries.

Behind this professional achievement lies another remarkable story. Natalia is a mother of four, and her youngest daughter was only ten months old at the time of the trip. Combining motherhood with long flights, organizational challenges and daily practice of technically demanding makeup looks seemed almost impossible.

“You could say I competed with my baby in my arms,” she says with a smile. “It wasn’t easy, but I knew exactly why I was going. I wanted to show that there are no boundaries when it comes to a dream, and that even with a child, you can continue moving towards your goal and reach new heights.”

Preparation took place under intense time pressure: costumes had to be found, every detail of the look perfected, and hours devoted to practising on models. “Considering that I have four children, during that entire period my family practically lived on convenience food,” Natalia jokes. “I am incredibly grateful to my husband for his support and understanding.”

At the championship itself, the pressure reached another level. A new set of rules made the challenge even more demanding: competitors were given just 35 minutes to complete an intricate makeup look instead of the usual 45.

“My table was positioned directly opposite the judges, and I could physically feel their eyes on me,” Demidova recalls. “I was incredibly nervous, my hands were shaking, but I managed to pull myself together and simply immerse myself in the process. That helped enormously. When the time was up, I literally ran off the competition floor because the emotions were overwhelming. It is something you never forget.”

Natalia has developed her own teaching methodology, distinguished by an unusually strong theoretical foundation. Her approach involves an in-depth study of classical facial proportions and anatomy, as well as a detailed understanding of the principles of light and shadow — knowledge that becomes particularly important when creating complex competition looks.

“I presented my work in the Smoky Eyes category — an expressive makeup style focused on creating depth and intensity around the eyes,” she explains. “I’m happy that my methodology worked and that the international jury rated the look so highly. I was the only competitor representing Kazakhstan from our Kazakhstan Beauty Federation association.”

Natalia also emphasizes the importance of the people who supported her on the way to Paris: “I want to thank everyone who believed in me and supported me through both words and actions. And especially my mentors, Victoria Stanevich and Dilya Abdullaeva.”

The silver medal at the OMC Hairworld World Cup 2026 is more than a personal achievement for Natalia Demidova. It is an important milestone for Kazakhstan’s beauty industry, demonstrating that its makeup professionals are capable of competing at the highest international level and earning recognition on one of the world’s most demanding professional stages.
