Freedom Media presents the series "MŪNAI," which transports viewers to Kazakhstan in the 1990s through the story of an oil region where the decisions of individual crime bosses could change the fate of an entire city.

Oil as a Symbol of an Era

In the 1990s, oil was more than just a resource; it was a currency of power, influence, and control. The struggle for oil flows became the source of endless conflicts between criminal groups. The stakes were high: whoever controls the oil controls the city, the people, and the future.

Нефть в 90-е была не просто ресурсом, а своеобразной валютой власти, влияния и контроля. Борьба за нефтяные потоки стала источником бесконечных конфликтов между криминальными группировками. Ставки были высоки: кто контролирует нефть - тот контролирует город, людей и будущее.

This reality became the central theme of the series.

The plot follows Aman, the leader of a gang of "sportsmen," who decides to engage in oil trading, thereby setting in motion the chain of events described in the series. He sees this business not just as a source of income, but also as a chance for freedom and a new destiny. However, in a world where oil is a weapon, attempting to escape the criminal underworld becomes mortally dangerous. Meanwhile, a confrontation between criminal gangs unfolds in the city, one seeking to control oil flows, while the other seeks to maintain its influence at any cost.

Эта реальность и стала центральной темой сериала.

Сюжет рассказывает о лидере группировки «спортиков» Амане, который решил заняться торговлей нефтью и тем самым запустил цепочку событий, описанных в сериале. Он видит в этом бизнесе не просто источник дохода, но и  шанс на свободу и новую судьбу. Однако в мире, где нефть - это оружие, попытка выйти из криминала становится смертельно опасной. А в городе разворачивается противостояние преступных группировок, одна из которых стремится взять под контроль нефтяные потоки, а другая - любой ценой удержать свое влияние.

The series is set against the backdrop of the real-life mood of the 1990s: unemployment, food shortages, the rise of banditry and racketeering, and a sense of disconnect between the new era and the old reality. People caught in the midst of these changes were forced to make decisions that seem unthinkable today. "MŪNAI" explores how, under such conditions, even the strongest spirits crumbled, and how the darkest times brought out the brightest sides in people.

Фоном сериала становятся реальные настроения 90-х: безработица, дефицит продуктов, рост бандитизма и рэкета, чувство разрыва между новым временем и старой реальностью. Люди, оказавшиеся в эпицентре перемен, вынуждены были принимать решения, которые сегодня кажутся немыслимыми. «MŪNAI» - о том, что в таких условиях даже сильные духом ломались, а самые темные времена открывали в людях яркие стороны.

A highly anticipated series

The creator and general producer of the series is Alisher Utev, the creator of such projects as "5:32," "1286," and "Serzhan Bratan." Directed by Darkhan Tulegenov, who directed "Brothers" and "Sheker: The Last Chance," the series stars Daniyar Alshinov, Nyshanbek Zhubanaev, Aibar Sali, Aknur Rakhat, and others. The Aktau and Zhanaozen regions served as filming locations. The creators say they were struck by the region's unique natural beauty. All characters and events are fictional. As the film's general producer, Alisher Utev, notes: "The series depicts the fates of a difficult era, its choices, pain, and hopes. In the 1990s, every step was a struggle: for money, for power, and for freedom of choice. 'MŪNAI' isn't about crime—it's about people trying to survive and preserve themselves in difficult times. We really want viewers to feel this emotional resonance of the era."

Сериал, который ждали

Автором идеи и генеральным продюсером  выступил  Алишер Утев - автор таких проектов, как «5:32», «1286» и  «Сержан Братан». Режиссер -  Дархан Тулегенов, снявший «Братьев» и «Sheker: последний шанс». Главные роли исполнили  Данияр Алшинов, Нышанбек Жубанаев, Айбар Салы, Акнур Рахат и другие. Локацией для съемок стали окрестности Актау и Жанаозена. По словам создателей картины, их поразила уникальная природа края. Между тем все герои и событиявымышлены. Как отмечает генеральный продюсер картины Алишер Утев: «Сериал показывает  судьбы сложной эпохи, выбор, боль и надежды.  В 90-е каждый шаг был борьбой: за деньги, за власть и за свободу выбора. «MŪNAI» - это не о криминале - это о людях, которые пытались выжить и сохранить себя в сложное время. Мы очень хотим, чтобы зритель почувствовал этот нерв эпохи».

The series premieres on November 27, 2025, on Freedom Media.
