The State Academic Dance Theatre of the Republic of Kazakhstan Opens Its Diamond 60th Season

On September 27 at 6:00 p.m., the State Academic Dance Theatre of the Republic of Kazakhstan will open its landmark 60th theatrical season. Symbolically, as the company celebrates its sixtieth anniversary, it is also entering a new chapter in its history: the theatre has been named after its founder, the outstanding Kazakh choreographer and People’s Artist of the Kazakh SSR, Bolat Ayukhanov.

27 сентября в 18.00 Государственный академический театр танца Республики Казахстан откроет свой юбилейный, 60-й театральный сезон. Символично, что в год шестидесятилетия театр вступает в новую главу своей истории — ему присвоено имя основателя, выдающегося казахстанского хореографа, народного артиста Казахской ССР Болата Аюханова.

The gala evening will take place on the stage of the Abai Kazakh National Theatre of Opera and Ballet and will be more than simply the opening of a new season: it will become a journey through the company’s creative history. The programme will feature iconic works and choreographic miniatures that, over the years, have shaped the theatre’s artistic language, become an integral part of its repertoire and introduced several generations of audiences to the distinctive style of Ayukhanov’s choreography.

Торжественный вечер пройдет на сцене КазНТОБ им. Абая и станет не просто открытием нового сезона, а своеобразным путешествием по творческой истории коллектива. В программу вечера вошли знаковые номера и хореографические миниатюры, которые в разные годы формировали художественный язык театра, становились частью репертуара и знакомили несколько поколений зрителей с особым стилем аюхановской хореографии.

The Young Ballet of Alma-Ata, founded by Bolat Ayukhanov, developed not as a conventional classical ballet company, but as a distinctive auteur theatre. It became a creative space where ballet could be both intimate and monumental, ironic and tragic, rooted in classical tradition while simultaneously drawing inspiration from Kazakh culture. Many of the master’s productions have remained in the repertoire for decades; only the performers change, as one generation of artists succeeds another.

«Молодой балет Алма-Аты», созданный Болатом Аюхановым, развивался не как классическая балетная труппа, а как авторский театр. Его театр стал пространством, где балет мог быть камерным и монументальным, ироничным и трагическим, основанным на классической традиции и одновременно обращенным к казахской культуре. Многие постановки мастера десятилетиями остаются в репертуаре, меняются лишь исполнители, сменяя себя новым поколением артистов.

The decision to name the theatre after Bolat Ayukhanov during its anniversary season carries particular significance. It is not only a tribute to the memory of the master who stood at the origins of the company, but also a recognition of the artistic tradition that has defined its place in the country’s cultural life for six decades. Today, the theatre continues to engage with the founder’s legacy, preserving his productions while at the same time developing a contemporary repertoire.

Присвоение театру имени Болата Аюханова в юбилейный сезон приобретает особое значение. Это не только дань памяти мэтру, стоявшему у истоков коллектива, но и закрепление той художественной традиции, которая на протяжении шестидесяти лет определяла его место в культурной жизни страны. Сегодня театр продолжает работать с наследием основателя, сохраняя постановки и одновременно развивая современный репертуар.

The anniversary programme will bring together landmark productions from different periods, revealing the extraordinary diversity of the theatre’s repertoire. The evening will open symbolically with “Perpetual Motion”, followed by the adagio from the ballet “The White Cloud of Genghis Khan”, “The Artist and the Swan”, “Aizhan-Kyz”, “Dance with Dombras”, “Rondo Capriccioso”, “Farruca”, “Whether Day Reigns”, “The Unsung Song”, “Dreams of Love” and “The Secretary”.

Программа юбилейного вечера объединит знаковые постановки разных лет и покажет многогранность репертуара театра. Откроет вечер символичное «Вечное движение», продолжат адажио из балета «Белое облако Чингисхана», «Художник и лебедь», «Айжан-кыз», «Танец с домбрами», «Рондо-каприччиозо», «Фаррука», «День ли царит», «Не спетая песня», «Грёзы любви» и «Секретарша».

A special place in the programme will be reserved for Maurice Ravel’s celebrated “Boléro” and the spectacular “Walpurgis Night”. The national dimension of the repertoire will be represented by the “Yurt” scene and the adagio from the ballet “Kyz Zhibek”, which will bring the evening to a close. Classical technique, national motifs, intimate choreographic miniatures and vivid theatrical drama will come together in a single programme — all the elements that have shaped the unmistakable artistic language of Bolat Ayukhanov’s theatre over the decades.

Особое место займут знаменитое «Болеро» Мориса Равеля и эффектная «Вальпургиева ночь». Национальная линия будет представлена сценой «Юрта» и адажио из балета «Кыз-Жибек», которое завершит вечер. В одной программе соединятся классическая школа, национальные мотивы, камерная хореографическая миниатюра и яркая сценическая драматургия — все то, что на протяжении десятилетий формировало узнаваемый язык театра Болата Аюханова.

The 60th season marks both a new beginning and the continuation of a remarkable story — the story of a theatre that has spoken to its audiences through the language of dance for six decades and continues its perpetual motion.

60-й сезон становится одновременно точкой отсчета и продолжением большой истории. Истории театра, который шесть десятилетий говорит со зрителем языком танца и продолжает свое вечное движение.
