The Festival of Wonders turns sports into a celebration for 12 days

As the premier spectacle museum in France and a must-visit destination during the year-end holidays, the Museum of Fairground Arts (Festival du Merveilleux) will celebrate sports through numerous performances and activities during the 13th Festival of Wonders, which will last for 12 days instead of the usual 8.

From December 27, 2023, to January 7, 2024, the five spaces of the museum, bringing together the largest collection of heritage objects from the spectacle and fairground art of the 19th century, will become the stage for a festival inviting visitors to experience total immersion. The public will have access to attractions, antique carousels, and shows. Listed in the French inventory of intangible cultural heritage, the fair and its universe intersect with games, spectacle, as well as scientific popularization and sports feats. This year, in light of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Festival of Wonders will highlight the importance given to sports at the Belle Époque fairgrounds, with its strength and skill competitions, battles, and exhibitions of strongmen.

The BavAR app will virtually revive, in the form of a game, a "slap in the face" automaton exhibited at the Museum of Fairground Arts, inviting visitors to measure their strength through a simulated slap. Visitors can also have their portrait taken, just like in 1850, thanks to the mobile studio of Enzo Lucia.
