Nur Shah Brings the Spirit of Kazakhstan to Paris with the “Qarlygash” Collection

Kazakh fashion made its mark in Paris on October 1, 2026, as Nur Shah presented its new prêt-à-couture collection, “Qarlygash,” during Paris Fashion Week. Rooted in national symbolism yet conceived for a contemporary woman, the collection became a poetic dialogue between heritage, freedom and movement.

Qarlygash: The Symbol of Home and Return

The name of the collection carries a special meaning. “Qarlygash” means “swallow” in Kazakh — a bird traditionally associated with home, hope and return. For Nur Shah, this image became a metaphor for a woman who is free to explore the world without losing her connection to her roots.

With “Qarlygash,” the designer celebrates a woman who is modern, independent and confident, yet deeply connected to her cultural identity. She does not have to choose between tradition and freedom: the two can coexist naturally, becoming different dimensions of the same personality.

Between Heritage and Movement

The philosophy behind the collection is captured in a simple yet powerful idea: a woman can go far while always knowing the way home. In this sense, the swallow becomes more than a decorative symbol — it represents movement without losing one’s sense of belonging.

Presented in the prêt-à-couture format, “Qarlygash” brings together the refinement and individuality associated with couture and a more contemporary approach to fashion. The very concept reflects the collection’s central idea: finding a balance between seemingly different worlds.

Kazakhstan in Paris

The presentation of “Qarlygash” in Paris became another opportunity to introduce an international audience to contemporary fashion from Kazakhstan — fashion that increasingly draws inspiration from its own cultural codes while speaking a language that can be understood far beyond the country’s borders.

Rather than treating national heritage as something belonging solely to the past, Nur Shah places it within a contemporary context. The swallow, with its symbolism of home and hope, becomes part of the story of today’s Kazakh woman — cosmopolitan and free, yet aware of where she comes from.

Paris, one of the world’s most influential fashion capitals, provided a particularly meaningful setting for this story. Against the backdrop of Paris Fashion Week, “Qarlygash” offered its own interpretation of contemporary Kazakh identity through fashion.

The message behind the collection is ultimately universal: moving forward does not mean leaving the past behind. Like a swallow that travels great distances and finds its way home again, the modern woman can embrace the world while remaining faithful to her origins.
