A Tribute to Valentino Garavani

A gown by Valentino has long been synonymous with pure luxury. Even those far removed from fashion’s inner circles recognize the house’s iconic Rockstud sandals. And some of the most breathtaking red carpet moments in history were created under the Valentino name.

At 92, Valentino Garavani, the founder of the legendary Italian maison, passed away. Over the course of 66 years, he built his brand into one of the great empires of fashion. He was chosen by global style icons such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Princess Diana, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Meryl Streep—and in the end, he himself became the embodiment of elegance.

For his anniversary, fifty of his iconic red creations were exhibited at Teatro Sociale. Yet in his own wardrobe, red was nearly absent.
