Astana to Become a Hub for International Architectural Dialogue as ARCHICA 2026 Takes Place on October 5–6

Астана станет центром международного архитектурного диалога: 5–6 октября пройдет ARCHICA 2026

On October 5–6, Astana will bring together leading architectural practices, urban planners, designers and developers from around the world. ARCHICA 2026 is set to become a key platform for international knowledge exchange and the launch of new projects across Central Asia. The Astana Urban Center is a co-organizer of the event. The forum is supported by the Akimat of Astana, Astana General Plan Research and Design Institute, the Government of the United Kingdom and the Government of the Netherlands.

5–6 октября в Астане соберутся ведущие архитектурные бюро, урбанисты, дизайнеры и девелоперы со всего мира. ARCHICA 2026 — ключевой форум для международного обмена экспертизой и запуска новых проектов в Центральной Азии. Соорганизатор — Центр урбанистики Астаны. Форум проходит при поддержке Акимата Астаны, ТОО «НИПИ “Астанагенплан”», Правительства Великобритании и Королевства Нидерландов.

The forum’s two days are structured around two interconnected themes — Shaping Identity and Living Identity. Together, they explore the complete cycle of urban identity: from the way it is conceived and shaped to the way it is experienced in everyday life.

Дни форума выстроены вокруг двух взаимосвязанных линий — Shaping identity и Living identity — и вместе раскрывают полный цикл работы с городской идентичностью: от ее формирования до повседневного проживания человеком.

In this context, Astana offers a particularly compelling case study for the region. It was the first city in Central Asia to become a new capital and be developed virtually from the ground up — an urban experiment of such scale that it provides a unique perspective for exploring the very notion of identity.

Астана здесь выступает показательным примером для региона: это первый в Центральной Азии случай, когда столицу переносили и выстраивали практически с нуля — такой масштабный эксперимент дает уникальную оптику для разговора об идентичности.

“We must work diligently to improve people’s quality of life and create the most comfortable possible conditions for every citizen. From this perspective, Astana is undoubtedly an exemplary city, reflecting the achievements of Kazakhstan as a whole. Today, we can say with confidence that the capital has become a magnet for innovative and creative people,” President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during his address at the nationwide Taza Qazaqstan environmental campaign in Astana.

Сегодня с полной уверенностью можно заявить, что столица стала местом притяжения для новаторских и креативных людей», — отметил президент Казахстана Касым-Жомарт Токаев во время выступления на республиканской экологической акции «Таза Қазақстан» в Астане.

Astana’s role as a platform for these discussions is further reinforced by its official international designation as a Resilience Hub. The city received the status from the United Nations in April 2026 as part of the global Making Cities Resilient 2030 initiative (MCR2030), becoming the first city in Central Asia to earn this designation.

Дополнительным аргументом в пользу статуса Астаны как площадки для этих дискуссий служит ее официальный международный статус — Resilience Hub (Хаб устойчивого развития). Его город получил в апреле 2026 года от ООН в рамках глобальной инициативы Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) и стал первым городом в Центральной Азии, удостоенным этого статуса.

ARCHICA brings together the professionals who are shaping these changes and creates a space for open international dialogue,” says ARCHICA Project Director Indira Makhmetova. “For us, it is essential that this dialogue goes beyond the exchange of ideas and leads to new professional connections, projects and solutions that will contribute to the development of architecture and cities across the region.”

The international speaker line-up for ARCHICA 2026 includes Ada Yvars Bravo, co-founder of Mangera Yvars Architects (Spain/UK); Jennis Renner, Senior Architect at ATELIER BRÜCKNER (Germany); Marcelina Zielinska, Board Director at Chapman Taylor (UK); Ralph Steinhauer, Executive Director of RSP Dubai (UAE); as well as representatives and executives from Zaha Hadid Architects, SYBARITE, IND, ARUP and other internationally renowned companies.

Saraiva + Associados will serve as ARCHICA 2026’s main architecture partner, while GROHE is the strategic partner and the ALUTECH Group of Companies is the technical partner.

The program will also feature a series of workshops, including a special program by Barker Langham. Participants will explore the principles behind cultural master planning, examine the relationship between public art, architecture and user experience across projects of different scales, and take part in a practical session tracing a real-world project from the initial brief through to its final implementation.

В программу также включена серия воркшопов, среди которых — специальная программа компании Barker Langham. Участники узнают секреты культурного мастер-планирования, обсудят взаимосвязь паблик-арта, архитектуры и пользовательского опыта в проектах разного масштаба и пройдут практическую часть: разберут реальный проект от первоначального брифа до реализации.
