L'Art Déco Turns 100 in Saint-Quentin

To mark the centenary of the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, the city of Saint-Quentin is celebrating its remarkable Art Deco heritage. This is a perfect opportunity to discover a charming city that is a true jewel of the Roaring Twenties’ architecture.

Two major exhibitions will guide visitors into the world of Art Deco, both open until the European Heritage Days.

“Elegance and Modernity. 100 Years of Art Deco!” is held at the Palais de l’Art Déco until September 21, featuring over 300 works that retrace the creative energy of the 1920s — from jewelry, clothing, and glassware to furniture.

“Gaston Suisse. Nature and Gold” at the Antoine-Lécuyer Fine Arts Museum explores the refined world of Gaston Suisse, an emblematic figure of Art Deco, known for combining Japanese lacquer techniques with a pure, elegant style. His work, inspired by wildlife and Asian art, left a strong mark on the international exhibitions of the 1920s and 1930s.

Природа и золото» в Музее изящных искусств Антуана Лекюера знакомит посетителей с утончённым миром Гастона Сюисса — ключевой фигуры ар-деко, прославившегося мастерством японского лака и изысканным стилем. The city itself is an open-air museum of Art Deco. From the station bridge with its Art Deco lamps to the basilica’s stained-glass windows, the Conservatory, the Palais de l’Art Déco, the Casino, and the City Hall Council Chamber — every corner reveals a piece of Saint-Quentin’s rich heritage.
