What surprises do the 58 galleries of the 22nd edition of Parcours des Mondes have in store for collectors, enlightened enthusiasts, or curious passersby? Its honorary president, Stéphane Martin, former director of the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, with a particular affinity for Africa (which always takes the lion's share), can only be particularly touched by the exhibitions Unû. Prestigious African Weapons, a selection from Jacques Billen's collection at Galerie Bernard Jordan, shown for the first time, and the exhibition Shared Passion/Passion Partagée. An African Art Collection Built in the XXI Century, revealing some pieces from the collection of Michel Vandenlkerkhove and his wife, assembled thanks to Didier Claes, "this discoverer of objects and dream conduit" for the collector at Galerie Philippe Jousse, such as Singe Baoulé from Côte d'Ivoire. Two publications accompany these exhibitions: Édition Parcours des Mondes and Éditions Fonds Mercator. Other regions will undoubtedly capture attention. Japanese bamboo basketry, revitalized by young creators, is organizing the second edition of the Mingei Bamboo Prize at Galerie Mingei. The American gallery Tenzing Asian Art is offering a very rare Tibetan medicine chest. The great discovery, nonetheless, will be Siberian shamanic art (Galerie Grusrnmeyer & Woliner). These small objects with animal forms (many of them birds) made of worked metal retain all their mysterious charm, as we know little about these nomadic peoples. Some influences from Asia and the Middle East can be perceived, but much remains to be discovered.
