Following in her father’s footsteps, who was a gemmologist and jeweller, Elke studied gemmology and art, and was trained as a stonecutter and goldsmith. She also developed expertise as a specialist in antique jewellery, gaining experience working as a buyer for a large jewellery firm in Geneva. Since the age of 24, she has been an independent gem dealer, building up her trove of treasures by sourcing directly from the mines in many countries around the world. Much of her design inspiration comes from her exploration of mining sites and the raw materials extracted from the earth. At the same time, Elke remains open to the beauty of the natural world and to a myriad of unforgettable human encounters and experiences that also inspire her creations.

Elke Burr and her husband Thomas founded the company Berr&Partners in 1986 in Geneva, where the goal was to acquire and resell natural, exceptional, high-quality stones. However, we understand that the experience in the market of stones, combined with the refined atmosphere of Geneva, will turn into a collection of jewelry that highlights precious stones. Among other things, Elke Berr has access to one of the most famous mines in the world, which is Mogok in Burma, which is known for producing some of the highest quality precious minerals. Elke herself goes to all deposits to select the very natural, ideal gems. By the way, she adores Kazakhstan and has been in our country more than once. We talked to Elke about her work and a little about herself.
