Le Musée des Enfants is a unique new project and the first stage of Phase 4 of the Scientific and Cultural Project launched by the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille in 2017. Designed especially for children, this new exhibition space invites young visitors to discover art through an immersive and engaging experience.

Located on the ground floor of the museum, the permanent 150-square-meter space is accessible free of charge and features a flexible scenography designed by the agency Scénografiá. The exhibition was carefully conceived for younger audiences, with artworks displayed at children’s eye level and accompanied by thoughtful mediation tools encouraging curiosity and participation.

Olfactory, sound, and tactile devices enrich the visit, creating a multisensory approach to art discovery. An acoustic ceiling system also ensures a calm and comfortable atmosphere throughout the exhibition space.

The museum’s theme will change periodically. Titled Grandeur Nature, the inaugural edition explores humanity’s relationship with nature and invites visitors to reflect on the living world around them. Around forty works from the museum’s reserves and permanent collections have been brought together for the exhibition.
Тематика музея будет регулярно обновляться. Первая выставка под названием Grandeur Nature исследует взаимоотношения человека и природы, предлагая зрителям задуматься о мире живого. В экспозицию вошло около сорока произведений из запасников музея и постоянной коллекции.

Among the highlights are sculptures such as Forêt humaine by Ossip Zadkine (1948), ceramic trompe-l'œil works shaped like cabbage or asparagus bundles from the 18th century, and remarkable paintings including Bouquet de fleurs by Roelandt Savery, Étude de lions by Pieter Boel, Hêtraie en forêt de Fontainebleau by Constant Dutilleux, and Nature morte aux champignons by Louise De Hem. The exhibition also includes historical objects from different eras, including medals and Egyptian amulets.

Le Musée des Enfants 1: Grandeur Nature officially opens to the public on May 7, 2026. The project was designed primarily for children aged 6 to 10 accompanied by adults, while remaining open and accessible to all museum visitors free of charge and without reservation.
