During Haute Couture Week in Paris — when the eyes of the world turn to the French capital — the Maison Mellerio, the oldest jeweler in the world and a resident of Place Vendôme, has unveiled a colorful and precious parure. This exceptional piece is a tribute to the house’s rich history and unmatched craftsmanship.

Mellerio’s story began in 1613, and among its most illustrious clients was none other than Queen Marie Antoinette. One of her bracelets, adorned with antique cameos and once purchased near the gates of Versailles, was showcased at Bergdorf Goodman in New York last autumn.

Inspired by this queen with her refined taste and joyful, free spirit, Laure-Isabelle Mellerio wanted to pay tribute to her legacy. She translated into high jewelry the magnificent garden motif found in the “Grand Ananas” tapestry of Marie Antoinette’s private Versailles apartments. The pineapple, a central element of the decor and glorified in a painting by Oudry, symbolized royal power — once regarded as the “King of Fruits.”

The tapestry’s subtle shades of blue are captured through sky-toned sapphires, pastel aquamarines, and violet tanzanites. Emerald greens, bottle-like tourmalines, and mint garnets mirror the lush foliage. The collection also features solar yellows of heliodor, intense reds of rubellite, soft blush morganites, bright pink sapphires, and the fiery oranges of spessartite or the rosy glow of imperial topaz.
