From November 21, 2024, to March 23, 2025, the exhibition "Paris, Capitale de la Perle" will take place, shedding light on the fascinating history of pearls and their unique connection with Paris. The exhibition, organized by L’École des Arts Joailliers, explores the once-thriving pearl trade between the Arab-Persian Gulf and France from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. During this time, Paris became a global hub for luxury, with pearls at the heart of its culture and industry.

From the 1860s to the 1930s, the majority of pearls fished in the Gulf found their way to France. They were sold in Paris and crafted by renowned jewelers of Place Vendôme. Historical records—account books, telegrams, photographs—reveal the magnitude of this trade. This exhibition highlights not only the commercial ties but also the cultural and human connections established between the Gulf and France through these pearl routes.

In addition to celebrating a century of shared history, the exhibition showcases how pearls, both natural and cultured, captivated Parisian jewelers and artists. The "pearl mania" of the Roaring Twenties influenced various art forms, from opera and cinema to painting, photography, and illustration.

Founded in 2012 with the support of Van Cleef & Arpels, the school fosters jewelry culture and knowledge through courses, exhibitions, and research worldwide.
