More than a comparison, it is the look of one artist on another, the look of David Hockney on Henri Matisse. Immediately points of convergence jump to the eye. Their use of color is comparable: saturation and strong contrasts (Fauvism has been there). A desire not to dive into abstraction but to remain figurative. Their favorite themes: the window to the outside (Two Vases in the Louvre), intimate portraits with similar poses, the studio and its chairs (Rock chair facing an office chair). The garden, this rediscovered paradise, has become for both of them at the end of their lives their whole universe. And, if Matisse were still alive today, wouldn't he have swapped his cut-out papers for paintings on i-pad?

Их использование цвета сопоставимо: насыщенность и сильные контрасты (там был фовизм). Желание не погружаться в абстракцию, а оставаться образным. Их любимые темы: окно наружу (Две вазы в Лувре), интимные портреты в одинаковых позах, студия и ее стулья (Кресло-качалка напротив офисного кресла). Сад, этот заново открытый рай, стал для них обоих в конце жизни всей их вселенной. И если бы Матисс был жив сегодня, разве он не променял бы свои вырезки из бумаги на картины на ай-паде?
